What is An Engaged Encounter?

Engaged Encounter is a weekend away that gives an engaged or newly married couple the opportunity to examine their future life together -- a time to privately share their feelings, hopes, disappointments, joys and frustrations - and to do so openly and honestly, in a face-to-face, heart-to-heart encounter with the one person each has chosen to live with for the rest of their lives.

Engaged Encounter is designed to give a couple the opportunity to concentrate on each other and to speak honestly and intensely about :

             (1) their individual and couple qualities, attitudes and expectations and ;

             (2) their strengths and weaknesses, desires, ambitions, goals;

             (3)their attitudes about money, sex, children, family, their role in the church and society

                                           ---All in a quiet atmosphere away from the distractions of everyday life.

A series of talks are presented by a team of married couples and a priest.  The talks provide lived examples of marriage on a day-to-day basis.  Through the talk/writing/sharing, the engaged couple is encouraged to discuss privately all aspects of married life -- always from the viewpoint of their own relationship.

The talks cover how the participants look at:

-themselves as individuals

-their relationship with each other

-their relationship with God, the church and the world
